The Catalyst 8540 campus switch router is a modular Layer 2 and Layer 3 switch router that provides wire-speed Ethernet routing and switching services. The system has a 13-slot chassis that supports up to 128 ports of 10/100 Fast Ethernet connectivity, or 16 ports of Gigabit Ethernet capacity. The system can be deployed as a high-speed switch router for campus or enterprise backbones.
